We are only a small club but we have a big heart and are passionate about sailing and associated activities.

Our Club is located on the North Eastern side of Spencer Gulf at Pt Pirie, South Australia. Our Club Rooms are located on the Main Road in Port Pirie and overlooks the Pt Pirie River. The View from the Club house from the River Bar is stunning anytime of the day with views looking out to the Flinders Rangers to the North East or at Night the lights on the water of the harbour and river looking west towards the Nyrstar Smelter.

Membership of our club is made up of three different interests. We have our Members who race regularly during our summer months from October to May, We have our Cruisers who sail Keel Boats and Trailable Yachts and then the most important are our social members.

Our Club Today

The clubs active season is between October and May where the racing is mainly held on the Port Pirie River on Saturday afternoons. We have 4 different classes that sail regularly. The club is also involved in The Tripolis (a Keel Boat and Trailer Sailer that is sailed in the tranquil waters of the upper Spencer Gulf between the three cities of Port Pirie, Whyalla and Port Augusta.). This Years Seagrims Tripolis 2008, 28th to 30th December will start and finish at the Port Augusta Club, which is hosting the event.

Other events that the club is involved in are the Gulf Cruise; this event is a 14 day tag along tour of the Spencer Gulf visiting several Ports and bays in the area, Cockle Spit Cricket. This unusual cricket match is known in the area as the gulf war. The match is held on neutral ground of cockle spit, which is only accessible by water as the spit is in the middle of the Gulf. The spit is only out of the water at certain times of the year and is dry for a few hours a day. The event is held between the Port Pirie and Whyalla Yacht Clubs. Also in 2008 the Royal Port Pirie Club is hosted the Sailing of the Pura Light Start State Masters Games in April. This event was held on the Port Pirie River for Competitors over 35 years of age. The next State Masters Games will be held in 2010.

The Club has its own Rescue boat that is utilized during racing and is also by other members who offer their services on the day with the Start and safety boats to ensure that a safe environment is a priority to enjoy by all.
